Acquiring traffic is often seen as the foundation of an inbound marketing strategy . #SEO: Build your keyword list
The most important thing to do before you jump head-to-head into battle is to put yourself in your client’s shoes . What exactly is he looking for? What queries will it use to find products / services similar to yours? Each of the answers to these questions will reveal keywords that you should rank for. Then, don’t hesitate to take a look at your direct competitors. What keywords did they rank on? And above all, does it allow them to generate a lot of traffic? Tools like SEMRush and Open Site Explorer are very useful in this case.
Once your list of keywords has been established, you will now have to assess whether each of them is worth considering. To do this, use Google’s keyword planning tool to find the most interesting keywords, that is, those with a fairly large search volume while being as less competitive as possible (see our article on the long tail strategy on this subject). Everything here depends on the strategy you choose (and especially the resources available to you) but keep in mind that you must first of all choose keywords for which you think you can position yourself high in the search engines. So sometimes it is more interesting to be the big fish in the small pond than the small fish in the ocean.
Build your website around these keywords
At this point, you have identified all the keywords that are likely to bring you interesting traffic and for which you are willing to beat the competition. Now you have to go to the second step: optimize your website for the chosen keywords.
If you don’t have a website yet, try to include your most relevant keywords in the URL if possible ; Think of each of the pages of your website as being oriented around one or 2 keywords, and insert them judiciously in your titles, sub-titles and page descriptions (be careful not to want to do too much, over-optimization Keyword-or keyword stuffing – is a practice sanctioned by Google do not prefer search engines at the expense of your readers)..
